Google Apps has already helped my university build our dream, and the dream is having this remarkable collaboration.

Justinus Andjarwirawan, head of IT

Challenge

The Petra Christian University email system was costly and unstable, hosted on Postfix mail servers and running on Linux. With every power outage, the mail servers crashed and required tremendous (and costly) maintenance. Spam filtration was poor; storage capacity was minimal. Communication between faculty and students was insufficient. The university wanted to improve its IT infrastructure to help the university become a more cohesive and global community.

Solution

Using Google Apps for Education, Petra has achieved its goals. The web authentication systems were reworked, adopting a single sign-on for Google Apps as well as for internal web applications and WiFi authentication. Google Apps proved easy to use, effective, and reliable, with solid security and spam filtration. Students have been excited by the transformation, and they no longer lose their work due to system viruses or faulty thumb drives. Faculty can now collaborate with students directly on their work, commenting and providing feedback in real time.
